Electrochemical applications

A relatively low-viscosity, non-flammable liquid showing electric conductivity and wide electrochemical windows: this is a combination of properties not achievable with any other material than ionic liquids. Some examples where ionic liquids offer new opportunities:

  • higher efficiency and safety in lithium ion batteries
  • higher capacities and safety in supercapacitors
  • electrolytes in dye-sensitized solar cells
